IMPORTANT: This article discusses the technical aspects of creating and using Rubrics in Brightspace. There are a number of evidence-based design strategies and time-saving "life hacks" in rubrics that can help you with your productivity, clarity of feedback, and speed-of scoring students. These will be discussed in an upcoming "Learning Design Matters with Brightspace Rubrics" article: TBA.

Rubrics are valuable tools in education for assessing and evaluating student work systematically and consistently. In Brightspace, you can create and use rubrics to streamline grading, provide clear expectations, and offer constructive feedback to your students. This article will guide you through the process of using rubrics in Brightspace.

Editing and Deleting Rubrics:

Once a rubric has been used to grade an item, it can not be edited or deleted.

Instructional Designer's Note: Rubrics don't have to be graded, and they don't have to work just "one way." You can use rubrics to simply give quick assignment feedback to students--particularly feedback you find yourself repeating a lot. You can also use rubrics to help students better understand how to reach for improved scores. Schedule time with our Sr. Instructional Designer, Araminta Matthews, by submitting a ticket to KVCCBOLTS@Mainecc.edu, attend a PD session on Rubrics, or reach out with questions as they arise. Rubrics can make your grading life easier by saving you time and helping your students better understand your expectations.
