Retract Discussion Grades

Issue: Began grading a discussion post and then realized the due date had not yet passed.

Environment: Brightspace -> Discussions

Resolution: Retract feedback and set existing grades to draft state.

Cause: Grading started before the discussion due date by mistake.

Steps to Retract Discussion Grades

1. Enter the Course:

   • Navigate to the course where you need to retract discussion grades.

2. Access Discussions:

   • On the navigation bar, select the drop-down arrow next to Assignments.

   • Select Discussions.

3. Find the Discussion Topic:

   • Locate the discussion topic you want to retract grades from. In the video example below, it is labeled "Test 2 Reflection".

   • Click the down arrow next to the topic and select Assess Topic.

4. Retract All Grades:

   • If the discussion has been assessed too early and you want to prevent students from seeing these grades prematurely, you need to retract all the grades.

   • At the top of the page, you should see an option labeled Retract all feedback. Select it and click Yes to change the grades from a Published state (students can see them) to a Draft state.

5. Granular Retraction:

   • If needed, you can retract published grades for individual students by selecting the checkbox next to the student and clicking the Retract feedback button.

   • Then select Yes.
