Managing Account Settings

Customize your account settings to reflect your personal preferences. This tutorial shows you how to edit your account settings.

  1. Select your Personal Menu (your name and picture in the top-right of the page)

  2. Select Account Settings

Saving Settings

After making the desired settings changes, click on the Save and Close button at the bottom of the screen.

Pronouns

This section allows you to set and display your preferred pronouns in certain locations within Brightspace. Enable the Allow others to see my pronouns check-box to display your pronouns to your classmates and instructors. You can set your pronouns by selecting Use different pronouns and enter in your pronouns.

Font Settings

You can also change the system font size. Select the drop-down menu and choose the font size suitable to your needs, then click Save at the bottom of the screen to apply the changes.

Note: Font changes are not reflected in images, documents, or objects such as math questions.

Reading Content

In this section you can disable posts being marked as read as you scroll by them. This can be useful if you use a screen reader, or if you scroll past posts and don’t want them to be marked as read yet.

Video Settings

In this section you can make certain videos more accessible for use with assistive technologies like screen readers.

Locale & Language

In this section you can adjust your preferred language, date and time display settings, and number formats.

Formatting

In this section you can set your preferred format for the click, calendar, dates, and other numbers.

Time Zone

You can set your time zone here. It will default to Eastern Time but if you’re attending classes remotely in another time zone, this will make sure the Brightspace time matches your actual time.

Signing In

In Brightspace, instructors and classmates can see when you’re online and using Brightspace. In this section you can change settings to appear as offline all the time.

Application Settings

This section contains options for removing access to your account from certain applications that you have previously granted permission to.


Discussions Tab

This tab contains settings to customize your Brightspace Discussions experience.

Personal Settings

  • Always show the Discussions List pane: Selecting this option will pin the Discussions List pane in the View Topic and View Thread pages.

  • Default View: Setting this option to Grid will display the discussion posts in the traditional Grid View, with post subjects displaying in a grid. Setting this option to Reading View will display the discussion posts in Reading View, where the entire text of a post displays for all posts.

  • Include original post in reply: Selecting this option includes the original post by default when composing a reply, similar to a forum or an email

Grid View Settings

  • Default Threading Style: The default threading style used when accessing topics.

  • Display Settings

    • Show the preview pane: Selecting this option displays the lower Preview pane in the Grid View. If this option is not selected, clicking on a post in the Grid View will open the post in a pop-up window.

    • Show the search bar: Selecting this option displays the Search fields in the Grid View.

  • Post fields to display

    • Post ID: Selecting this option displays the Post ID for posts in the Grid View.

  • Character Limits: Enable this setting to limit the length of post subjects when browsing discussion topics.

    • Subject Characters to Display: The number of characters of the Subject to display for each post when browsing topics. Must be an integer between 1 and 150.


Email

This tab contains options for sending emails from Brightspace. It is generally recommended to send all emails through Outlook, however it is possible to send emails directly from Brightspace.

Email Options

  • Send a copy of each outgoing message to name@kvcc.me.edu: Enabling this checkbox will send you a copy of each email that you send from Brightspace. This can be useful for keeping a record of sent emails.

  • Email Signature: Use this text box to set a signature to be appended to the end of any email you send from Brightspace.

Display Options

  • Show external email addresses in the Address Book: This option will show non-KVCC email addresses in the email address book.
