Setting Up a Copyleaks Assignment in Brightspace

The article below is for setting up a Copyleaks assignment in Brightspace using the Copyleaks Assignment tool.

Preparation

  1. Navigate to your course Content.

  1. Locate the Module where you want to insert the assignment.

Creating the Copyleaks Assignment

 

  1. In the desired module, click on Existing Activities.

 

 

  1. Select the Copyleaks Assignment tool.

 

  1. Enter the Assignment title.

  1. In the description field, write the instructions for the assignment.

  2. Set the due date:

    • Enter manually don’t use the calendar icon it does not work properly.

    • Choose whether to allow submissions after the due date.

  1. Enter the Max Grade.

  1. Set the number of Maximum attempts and Maximum file allowed, and choose whether to Allow submission via text editor.

Configuring Scan Settings

  1. Click on Scan settings to open a new tab.

  1. In the Settings section:

    • Review the default options.

    • Adjust if necessary (recommended to leave defaults).

  2. Under Scan Settings:

    • Choose sources to scan (e.g., all web, internal database).

    • Set filters and language options.

    • Configure security measures:

      • Enable/disable high sensitive data detection.

      • Choose to omit references, quotes, citations, or titles.

  3. Note the AI content detection is a trial and will not always be available.

  4. Click Save Settings.

  1. Close the Scan Settings tab.

Finalizing the Assignment

  1. Review all settings

  2. Check the option Add to Gradebook to make the assignment into a grade item.

  3. Click Submit Assignment.

Post-Creation Steps

  1. Locate the newly created Copyleaks assignment in your module.

  2. Note that it appears as an "External Learning Tool” NOT an Assignment

 

Please Take Note of the following:

  • Copyleaks assignments only appear in Course Content, not in the Assignments section.

  • Students can only access Copyleaks assignments through Course Content.

Notes on Student’s View:

The following is all accessible directly in Brightspace the student does not need to open a new tab or be redirected to an external site.

  1. Students will see the Copyleaks interface when accessing the assignment.

  2. They can view instructions and due dates.

  3. Students can upload documents, save, and submit.

Notes on Instructor View:

  • Instructors can view submissions and results through the Copyleaks interface in Brightspace, and does not need to open a new tab or be redirected to an external site.
